Guitarist Shant Hagopian is a Canadian songwriter/guitarist of Syrian descent formerly of the band Nu.Clear.Dawn (famous for being the first Syrian metal band to release an album). We haven’t heard much from Shant lately as the only album by his old band was put out 10 years ago. Now, out of seemingly nowhere, he’s putting out a solo, mostly instrumental project, Semantic Saturation featuring an amazing cast of musicians including drum legend Virgil Donati, keyboardist Derek Sherinian (ex-Dream Theater, Planet X and his many solo projects), bassist Ric Fierabracci and, on the last cut, the 8-minute prog metal epic, What If We All Stop he’s featuring one of my all-time favorite singers, Andy Kuntz of the great German band Vanden Plas. Shant is a great, fluid guitarist and has written some fantastic pieces that showcase his talents as well as the amazing musicianship of his compadres.
You can hear a soundclip via the YouTube link below so you can hear what all of the fuss is about. The album will be released on Jan. 21 and we’ll be featuring it here as part of that week’s new progressive metal releases but if you pre-order it via Shant’s website (link below) and if you’re one of the first 50 to pick up a copy you’ll get free guitar picks as well as autographed posters.
